PETERSBURG-AK The State Department of Transportation has contracted with Cruise West and the Interisland Ferry Authority to get airline freight and passengers to Wrangell during Petersburgs runway closure this spring.
All Alaska airlines passengers travelling in or out of Petersburg during the March 23rd to April 21st closure will have to book their flights through Wrangell. The state is covering the cost of passenger and freight travel between the two towns. Cruise West will bus Alaska airlines passengers to and from an IFA vessel which will link up with twice daily flights through Wrangell. Cruise west has subcontracted with Petersburg-area businessman Dave Kensinger to truck the freight, inform passengers and coordinate the overall plan. Matt Lichtenstein asked Kensinger about the details.
