PETERSBURG, AK Petersburg’s municipal parks and recreation department has a new director. Donny Hayes, 32, moved to Petersburg almost one year ago to run a local charter sportfishing business with his father. Hayes, originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, worked in the recreation field for eight years in Rexburg, Idaho and Washington City, Utah before moving here. And he’s familiar with Petersburg recreation facilities after working as a lifeguard at Petersburg’s pool for the past year. Joe Viechnicki spoke with Hayes about his past experience and starting up the job in Petersburg.
