Sitka took second place, Thunder Mountain third, Ketchikan fourth and Juneau Douglas fifth.
The Petersburg girls took 5th place but they only have four swimmers on the team. The Juneau Douglas girls won Regions, Thunder Mountain took second, Ketchikan third, Sitka fourth, and Metlakatla sixth.
Nine of Petersburg’s swimmers have qualified for the state meet, which happens this coming weekend in Anchorage.
Andy Carlisle is Petersburg’s swim coach and spoke with Angela Denning about the meet:
Abel Aulbach is going to state for four separate events. He won the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle events and he was part of two winning relays, the boys 200 yard and the 400 yard freestyle relays. The other swimmers in the 200 include Skipper Erickson, Ian Fleming, and Evan Marsh. In the 400, it is Skipper Erickson, Evan Marsh and Ben Higgins.
Evan Marsh also won the boys 100 yard backstroke and took second place in the boys 100 yard butterfly.
Ian Fleming took third in the 100 butterfly. Fleming took second place in the boys diving and Britton Erickson took third.
Skipper Erickson took third in the boys 100 yard freestyle. He also took fourth place in the boys 200 yard freestyle which with a time fast enough to go to state.
Izabelle Ith won the girls one meter diving event. Ith also took fourth in the girls 50 year freestyle with a time of 26.12 seconds which qualifies her for state.
