Petersburg High School boys basketball team finished in fourth at the Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic in Ketchikan after 53-41 win over North Pole today.
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead and were up 28-11 at halftime. The Patriots pulled to within 10 points in the third quarter but Petersburg did not let up and notched the team’s second win of the tournament. Petersburg beat Klawock on Tuesday after losing to Monroe Catholic on Monday.
In the girls tournament, the Lady Vikings play around 5:45 tonight against Sitka. That game will be broadcast live. The winner gets third place while the loser winds up in fifth. The game provides an early season test for Petersburg against a Southeast 3A rival that will not count against the regional rankings later in the season. The Petersburg girls lost to Ketchikan last night 45-35 while Sitka lost to Esparanza, a school in Anaheim, California.
The host teams from Ketchikan are both in the title games tonight, against Esperanza on the girl’s side and against Anacortes, Washington for the boys crown.
