The House finance committee is taking public comment this week on the state’s operating budget that proposes some big cuts in state spending for next year. Lawmakers want to cut spending to offset a more-than-three billion dollar budget deficit.
Sitka democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins visited Petersburg last week, about halfway through the 90-day session and spoke with KFSK’s Joe Viechnicki about the belt tightening under discussion in the state capital.
The legislative session runs through April 19th. Petersburg area residents have a chance to testify to the House Finance committee on state operating and mental health budgets Thursday, March 5 from 4:30-6 at the Legislative Information Office.
