Two men were rescued from the water in Sumner Strait south of Petersburg last Thursday after their fishing boat capsized.
Alaska State Troopers, along with U.S. Forest Service and National Marine Fisheries Service located 57-year old Joseph Hedlund of Petersburg and 61-year-old Richard Shepson of Tacoma, Washington around 3:30 Thursday afternoon. The men had been fishing when their boat capsized according to the troopers. Hedlund was able to signal for help from the bow of the overturned boat and Shepson was found nearby.
Both men were pulled from the water in good condition and received aid onboard the trooper patrol vessel Moen. They were returned to Petersburg. Neither was reportedly wearing a life jacket, according to state troopers.
