Petersburg High School cross country teams finished the first meet of the season in Sitka on Saturday in the top two for small schools in Southeast.
The PHS girls team came in first for 1A-2A and 3A schools, finishing behind only the 4A schools in Juneau and Ketchikan. The boys team was the second place small school. The Sitka boys won on their home course, followed by Juneau-Douglas, Thunder Mountain and Ketchikan.
Six PHS girls were in the top 14 for small school runners. Kayleigh Eddy was the top runner for the girls team with a time of 22 minutes and 43 seconds. Erin Pfundt was next, coming in at 23 minutes and six seconds. Hannah Pfundt, Avery Skeek and Julia Murph also finished in under 24 minutes.
Two boys were in the top 10 for the small schools. Tucker Hagerman was the fastest for the Vikings with a time of 18 minutes and 53 seconds. Nathaniel Lenhard was next with a time of 19 minutes and 18 seconds. Daniel Holmberg and Koren Sperl both finished the course in under 21 minutes.
Thompson says another new runner with a personal record in Sitka was Mariah Taylor. Next up for Petersburg is a meet this weekend in Craig.
