Both Petersburg High School basketball teams were victorious at the Clarke Cochrane Christmas Classic in Ketchikan Tuesday. The girl’s team plays for the championship tonight while the boys team will play for fourth place this afternoon.

The girls beat the Palmer Moose 65-57 in a hard-fought game Tuesday. The Lady Vikings trailed 16-11 after one quarter, then held the lead at halftime 32-29. That lead was just one point at the end of three, with Petersburg up 44-43. The girls pulled away in the fourth quarter and held on for the win. Kylie Wallace led scoring for Petersburg.

The win means the Lady Vikings place for first place Wednesday night at 7:30 against Ketchikan. That team beat Oroville, California 56-32 Tuesday night.

Petersburg High School’s boys basketball team beat Hutchison a 3A school from Fairbanks Tuesday 59-35 and plays again Wednesday afternoon.

It was a close game for the first half. The Vikings trailed 11-9 after the first quarter but had a 26-24 lead at halftime. Then Petersburg scored 19 points while Hutchison went scoreless in the third quarter and the Vikings led 45-24 after three. Stewart Conn had 19 points for the Vikings, including 13 during that third quarter. Wolf Brooks added 12 points.

The boys play Scappoose, Oregon Wednesday at 2:15 with the winner taking fourth place. Scappoose beat Metlatkatla 54-45 Tuesday afternoon.
