Today is the first day to file for office for the October municipal election in Petersburg. There are nineteen elected positions to fill on various committees and boards.
The borough assembly will have three open seats. One is the three-year seat of Mayor Mark Jensen. The others are for assembly members Kurt Wohlhueter and Jeigh Stanton-Gregor, each with three year terms.
There are also the following seats to fill:
Two School Board Members: Two – 3 year terms
Four Hospital Board Members: Three – 3 year terms; One – 2 year term
Three Planning Commissioners: Two – 3 year terms; One – 1 year term
Two Library Board Members: Two – 3 year terms
Two Harbor Board Members: Two – 3 year terms
Three Public Safety Board Members: Two – 3 year terms; One – 2 year term
Public officials financial disclosure reporting will not be required because voters opted out of that requirement in last year’s election.
Nominating petitions and declaration of candidacy forms can be picked up at the finance office or found on-line here at the borough’s website.
The last day to file for candidacy is August 23 at 5 p.m.
The annual municipal election will be held Tuesday, October 4. The last day to qualify and register to vote at the election is September 4. People can get voter registration forms at the borough offices.
