Petersburg’s school board tonight will be voting on raising the prices of school breakfasts and lunches. The district is proposing to increase the cost of breakfasts by 50 cents to $2.50 and lunches by 25 cents to $3.50.
School board members will be voting on local programs required by state law regarding sexual abuse and sexual assault awareness and prevention for students in kindergarten through grade 12. The state also requires districts to establish a training program related to dating violence and abuse for grades seven through 12. Districts also must provide parent notices for the training. The law goes into effect June 30.
Also at tonight’s school board meeting, the board will be considering budget revisions to the current fiscal year. Finance Director Karen Quitslund will be giving an overview of those details.
The school board will hear more about two out-of-state travel trips next year. Board members approved the trips at their last meeting. One trip would take students to Puerto Rico in June of 2018. Spanish teacher Rowan Beraza is leading that trip. And music teacher Matt Lenhard is planning to take students to a music festival. School board members will be discussing travel guidelines associated with the trips.
The board will consider approving the hiring of Alenna Nilsen as a teacher for middle school social studies next year.
Board members will also hear reports from school administrators and directors about school activities and maintenance.
The board meets at 7 p.m. in the middle and high school library. KFSK will broadcast the meeting live.
