A Petersburg man is being charged with two felonies for allegedly raping a woman.

36-year-old Kenny Birch was arrested on May 1 after police responded to a call about the assault. He’s being charged with sexual assault in the first degree and sexual assault in the second degree.

According to court documents, the victim had been at Birch’s home doing laundry and was watching TV on Birch’s bed. Birch allegedly began massaging the victim’s back and then pinned her down, bit her ear, and raped her.

The victim was examined by a doctor who found bruising on her ear.

Birch pleaded not-guilty to both felony charges at an arraignment hearing held this morning at 10 a.m.

Birch is being held in the Petersburg jail on $15,000 cash only bail. A bail hearing is scheduled for May 15 at 8:30 a.m.
