Moose hunters have reported killing 107 moose on the mainland and islands around Petersburg, Kake and Wrangell.

The month-long moose season began September 15.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game says 44 bulls have been taken on Kupreanof Island, 24 have come from the Stikine River. Hunters have taken 11 on Mitkof Island, seven in Farragut Bay, six in Thomas Bay on the mainland north of Petersburg, four on Wrangell Island, four on Kuiu Island, three on Zarembo Island, two on the Wrangell Mainland, one on Woewodski Island, and one on the Petersburg Mainland.

Of the 107 moose checked in thus far, 9 have failed to comply with the antler restrictions.

The moose hunting season closes October 15.
