Petersburg High School’s entry in the 4×800 relay race took first place at the division two track and field championships in Palmer last weekend, setting a new school record in the process.
The team was made up of two seniors, Shyla Cook and Erin Pfundt, along with two freshmen, Maia Cowan and Kendra Coonrad. They finished in 10 minutes and four point 41 seconds, edging out a team from Homer. Cowan also came in third in two individual events, the 1600 and 3200.
Isaac Taylor was second in the high jump, Aiden Luhr was fifth in the 100 dash and Kiana Kivisto took third in the long jump. Others on the team had top finishes and set personal records or PRs at the state meet. 15 students made the trip for Petersburg.

Petersburg’s girls team finished in seventh at the meet while the boys finished in 15th. The Sitka girls were the top team in division two, while the Sitka boys came in second to Anchorage Christian. The Petersburg teams graduated four seniors Erin Pfundt, Shyla Cook, Josh Thynes and Britton Erickson.
