Petersburg High School’s swim team hosted a home meet last weekend at the community pool. Swimmers came from all over the region—Juneau Douglas, Thunder Mountain, Sitka, Ketchikan, Craig, and Wrangell.
In the boys division, Petersburg senior Sean Spiegelmyre took third place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1 minute, three seconds. Spiegelmyre also finished 6th in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.36 seconds and 7th in the 100 yard freestyle at 54.9 seconds. He also took 7th in the 100 yard breast stroke at 1 min. 17 seconds.
Elijah Whitacre took third place in the boys 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes 33 seconds. He took 6th place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2 minutes 13 seconds. And Whitacre finished 7th in the 100 yard freestyle at 57.1 seconds.
Caleb Pfundt took 5th place in the boys 200 yard individual medley at 2 minutes, 29 seconds. He also took 6th place in the 100 yard breast stroke at 1 min. 17 seconds.
The boys relay team competed in several events. The team included Rik Cumps, Caleb Pfundt, Sean Spiegelmyre and Elijah Whitacre. They took third place in both the 200 and 400 yard freestyle relays. They also finished fourth place in the 200 yard medley relay.
For the girls, senior Allie Morgan–the only girl on the team this year—competed in several freestyle races. She took 4th place in the 200 yard freestyle at 2 minutes, 9 seconds. She took 4th place in the 100 freestyle at 58.7 seconds and she took 5th place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.7 seconds. She also took 5th in the 100 yard backstroke at 1 min. 10 seconds.
October is a full month of swimming for the Petersburg team. This weekend they get a break then there is a meet in Sitka followed by a meet in Juneau. Then it’s the Regional meet in Ketchikan at the end of October. The state swim meet is the beginning of November in Juneau.
