Petersburg School Board will meet Tuesday evening to vote on a three-year contract agreement between the district and the classified union. The union includes support personnel like aides, food service workers, custodians, and technicians.
Through negotiations, wage increases were agreed upon: $2/hour raises for this coming year, a two percent raise the second year, and a one percent raise the third year.
The new contract includes additional paid days over winter break for employees working 10 months or less. It also broadened some use of leave categories.
Also at the school board meeting, the board will be considering updated language for a dozen board policies.
Board members will also hear about the new principal who has been hired for the middle and high school. Ambler Moss has over 25 years of experience as an educator and principal in the U.S. and overseas. He’ll be moving to Petersburg from California this summer. Moss and his wife will be visiting Petersburg this week–Thursday through Sunday—and the school district plans to have opportunities for students, staff, and community members to meet him during that time.
Current principal Rick Dormer turned in his resignation after 13 years to take a job in Ketchikan.
Also at the meeting, the school board will hear administrative reports from the superintendent, the principals, the activities director, and the maintenance director.
The meeting will start with a special presentation about whales by second graders.
The regular school board meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Petersburg Middle and High School library. KFSK will be broadcasting the meeting live.
Also, tune in to KFSK today at 12:30 p.m. for Campus Connection, a call-in with school district officials.
