Petersburg High School’s track teams joined eight other schools competing at the Capital City Invitational Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7 at Thunder Mountain High School in Juneau.
Uriah Lucas took first in the 3200 meters, setting a new school record in that event and second place in the 1600. Teammate Breiland Willis was third in the 3200 and fourth in the 1600.
Chase Lister was second in the 110 hurdles and Jonas Anderson was fourth in the 300 hurdles. Sean Spigelmyre took second in the shot put, Michael Durkin was second in the high jump and Rik Cumps was third in the long jump
A Petersburg boys team of Cumps, Lister, Durkin and Caleb Lutomski took third in the 4×100 relay.
Joe Viechnicki spoke with coach James Valentine who said his athletes set personal records, or P-Rs, across the board.
The teams are off again this weekend and next head to the regional meet in Ketchikan May 20th-21st. Uriah Lucas’ new school record for the 3200 meters (10:12:46) breaks the previous mark that stood for 3 years, set in 2019 by Tolin Eddy (10:17.29).
This story has been corrected. The school record holder in the 3200 was Tolin Eddy who bested Raleigh Cook’s 1987 mark three years ago.
