Petersburg High School’s track and field teams both finished in third at the region five meet in Ketchikan last weekend. Sitka and Haines took the top spots among smaller division two schools competing at the Ester Shay Field in Ketchikan.
Many Petersburg athletes set personal records, or PRs, at the meet and some took top spots at their events, qualifying for the state meet.
In individual results, Rik Cumps took first in the triple jump, and third in both the long jump and 100 meter dash. Michael Durkin was first in the high jump and he’s tied for the highest jump in the state in division two this year. Chase Lister took third in the 110 hurdles. Uriah Lucas was second in the 3200 and third in the 1600.
Sean Spigelmyre took first in the shot put. The boys 4×100 relay took first with Lister, Cumps, Durkin and Elijah Whitacre. The 4×400 relay team took third with Durkin, Lucas, Whitacre and Breiland Willis.
For the girls team, Kinley Lister was third in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Anya Pawuk took third in the shot put. The girls 4×100 relay team of Lillith Odegaard, Lakell Deinhart, Pawuk and Myah Enriquez took second.
