Petersburg Medical Center Tuesday reported a second resident of the Long Term Care wing has tested positive for COVID-19.
The community hospital reported its first case at its nursing home Friday, July 8. This new positive was identified during a second round of testing. Both residents have mild symptoms and are being kept separate from the others living there.
A press release from the medical center says the other residents of the facility have tested negative. Families have been notified of the two positive cases. PMC is asking family and friends to take a home COVID test before visiting and postpone visits with any possible symptoms like a scratchy throat or runny nose.
Staff at the hospital are wearing personal protective equipment around residents, checking for symptoms and will continue surveillance testing for workers and people living at PMC.
