The Petersburg Borough Assembly will address a lot of land use issues at its regularly scheduled meeting at it November 6 noon meeting.

The Assembly will vote for a third and final time on whether to rezone a lot for a private land owner to build a subdivision. The lot is owned by Skylark Park LLC, a company run by Petersburg residents, Ambre and Sig Burrell. The Burrells want the land rezoned from Public Use to Single-Family Mobile Home so they can subdivide it into lots for manufactured and stick-built homes. Manufactured homes are moveable and built off-site. The borough’s current code doesn’t allow for manufactured homes to be placed on land zoned for stick built homes. The only zoning option for manufactured homes is Single-Family Mobile Home. The ordinance passed unanimously in its first two readings.

The assembly will also vote on a request from Skylark Park to purchase six Borough-owned lots. Those lots would be combined with the Skylark-owned parcel up for rezoning to form a ten-plus acre subdivision with roads and utilities. The location of the property is between Skylark Way and Severson Subdivision on the southern side of town. The Borough will vote on whether to move forward with the property sale. If they do, they will decide whether to sell the land directly to Skylark Park, or open the sale up to the public for bid.

The Assembly has a heavy agenda with 13 action items. The Assembly will consider whether to bid on a lot up for auction at Blind River Rapids, a popular recreation and fishing spot 14 miles south of town. The land is for sale by the Mental Health Trust Land Office and the starting bid is just over $100,000. The Borough has a fund with nearly $100,000 donated by Andy Mathisen’s family to be used for a fishing park. The assembly will vote whether to use that money to purchase the Rapids property, to ensure public access to the popular area.

The Assembly will also elect a vice mayor, decide whether to continue the Housing Task Force, and appoint members to various boards such as the Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Early Childhood Education Task Force.

The Assembly meeting will take place today/Monday at noon in Assembly chambers. KFSK will broadcast the meeting live, and a recording of the meeting will be available at kfsk.org.
