Artist Daniel Tucker shows off coffee sleeves featuring his designs (Photo: Hannah Flor/KFSK)

This week folks buying coffee and tea in Petersburg will get a little extra color with their hot drink. That’s because the Petersburg Community Foundation has distributed coffee sleeves featuring local artwork to coffee shops around town. Board President Glorianne Wollen says the sleeves are part of a campaign to plant the seeds of philanthropy. The foundation supports nonprofits in Petersburg with endowment-funded grants, as well as workshops, financial and estate planning, and board trainings.

The organization held an art contest this spring and chose four designs by two local artists. Daniel Tucker is one of them. He sat down with KFSK’s Hannah Flor to talk about the inspiration behind the artwork. He says a lot of it came from the fact that he just loves living in Petersburg.

Long-time Petersburg resident and high school art teacher Ashley Lohr was the other contest winner. You can find Tucker’s work at icefieldfarm.com, and Lohr’s work at therosiefinn.com.

And you can find out more about the Petersburg Community Foundation’s projects at petersburgcf.org. The foundation will announce the winners of $27,479 worth of grants at an event on Saturday, May 18.
