Mindy Anderson was named Petersburg’s 2024 Norwegian American of the year at the Little Norway Festival pageant on Thursday, May 16. Whoops and cheers of recognition erupted from the crowd as presenter Sue Paulsen said “she founded [what would become] the Mitkof Dance Troupe.” Anderson founded Steppin’ Out Dance Studios more than two decades ago. Paulsen also mentioned Anderson’s work with Beat the Odds, and her support for various nonprofits and organizations through donations of food from her bakery and deli, The Salty Pantry.

Anderson accepted the award, saying “ Everybody knows this, but there was a man behind all my moves. This is also for Rodney Anderson.”

Mindy’s husband Rodney Anderson died March 20, 2024, after a long illness.
