Resiliency for Community Builders is one of two events with M. Paloma Pavel at the Petersburg Public Library (Photo courtesy of the Petersburg Public Library)

M. Paloma Pavel is a writer and psychologist exploring the ways that people interact with each other and the places they live. She will be in Petersburg June 9 to give a workshop on the topic.

She encourages community members to get involved in local politics and decision-making to help shape their futures. Here in Petersburg, that could mean deciding how to respond on a local level to challenges that come from the effects of climate change, or invasive species, or a crashing seafood industry.

Pavel sat down with KFSK’s Hannah Flor to talk about her work. She says she’s interested in exploring the ways community members can work through challenges to build a better future together.

Pavel is also the co-author of Random Acts of Kindness and Senseless Acts of Beauty, a book published 30 years ago that she describes as “needed now more than ever.” She will host a reading from the book at 6:30 p.m. June 9 at the Petersburg Public Library. And Pavel’s workshop on community resilience is June 9 from 2 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at the library, with registration at psglib.org.
