The filing period for Petersburg’s municipal election is closed. There are 14 open seats on various borough boards and committees, including the borough assembly, school board, and hospital board. Fifteen candidates are running for eleven seats. All the positions are three-year terms.

There will be two contested races on the ballot. Five people are running to fill two seats on Petersburg’s Borough Assembly. Incumbents Bob Lynn and Thomas Fine-Walsh want to retain their seats. Others in the running are James Valentine, owner of Viking Travel, former city council member Marc Martinsen, and Tony Vinson, a licensed practical nurse at the Petersburg Medical Center.

There is also a contested race for the library board. Incumbents Gina Esposito and Alec McMurren will both be on the ballot, as well as Petersburg Medical Center employee Julie Spigelmyre.

For the Harbor Advisory Board, incumbents Daniel Cardenas and Donald Spigelmyre are both running to keep their seats.

Incumbent John Havrilek is running for the Public Safety Advisory Board. He was appointed in July when board member Mark Testoni left Petersburg. There’s one open seat on the board and Havrilek is running unopposed.

There are two positions open on the hospital board. Incumbent Heather Conn and former hospital board member James Roberts will be on the ballot for those seats.

And there are two positions up for grabs on the school board – incumbent Carey Case will be on the ballot, as well as Petersburg Public Library employee Kari Petersen.

There are two open seats on the Planning Commission, and no one has registered to run for those positions. There is also one seat open on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and no one has filed for the position either.
