NOAA has issued a warning that Petersburg is projected to receive six to eight inches of rain this weekend. Landslides and flooding are possible. The greatest rainfall is supposed to start tonight and carry on through Saturday into Sunday morning.

Residents who live in areas that are showing signs of a potential landslide should evacuate and make plans to stay elsewhere during this rain event.

Residents are also asked to watch for signs of an impending landslide along Mitkof Highway, including muddy runoff, flooding and flooded ditches, blocked culverts and fallen debris from the hillsides.

You can report signs of a potential slide to the Police Department using their non-emergency line: (907)772-3838.
