Folks in rural Alaska don’t get a ton of visiting arts performances, because Alaska’s remote geography complicates things. This fall however, a New York-based dance company is stopping in ten cities and towns around the state. The Petersburg Arts Council and the Mitkof Dance Troupe worked together to bring the group, called Emerge125, to Petersburg.

KFSK’s Hannah Flor sat down with Artistic Director and Choreographer Tiffany Rea-Fisher and dancer Alyssa Manginaro. The group has been around for more than two decades, and is based in New York City’s Harlem, as well as the Adirondacks of upstate New York. Rea-Fisher says it’s important to her to have the influence of the natural world.

The group will perform on Tuesday, September 17, in Petersburg’s Wright Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and on the Petersburg Arts Council website at $25 for adults, and $15 for kids. A limited number of free kids tickets are available for families that have a hard time with the ticket price. For more information, email petersburgarts@gmail.com.
