Petersburg High School’s cross country teams dominated at the Region V meet in Ketchikan last week. Both the girls and boys teams qualified for state and will travel to Anchorage for the state competition this weekend. The girls team finished first in Division III, and they did it with a perfect score – sophomore Maria Toth took first, freshman Cadence Flint finished second, and freshman Arielle Tucker came in third.

The boy’s team took a close second in Division III, just a couple points behind Wrangell. Junior Alex Holmgrain finished third, junior Gage Ventress took 4th, and senior Elias Ward came in 7th. Many runners finished with personal record times, or PRs.

KFSK’s Hannah Flor sat down with coach Casey Gates to talk about the season. Gates says the win wasn’t a surprise, but even so, he’s still riding high after the meet.
