Petersburg’s school board will vote at tonight’s meeting on whether to tweak next year’s school calendar. The proposed new calendar is a result of feedback from a survey sent to parents with various possibilities for next year’s calendar. The proposed schedule has the school year starting slightly later, after Labor Day, next year. The school year would end a bit later too, going into the first week of June. According to Petersburg Superintendent Robyn Taylor’s report, people said the change works well with the fishing season. They also said they preferred a late start date because August weather tends to be sunnier.
The new schedule would also have slightly longer holiday breaks, including an extra day each during the Christmas break and spring break. Spring break would start on a Friday as usual, but would also include a Monday, giving families two full weekends of travel time.
The public will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed schedule at tonight’s 6 p.m. meeting in the middle and high school library. KFSK will broadcast the meeting live.
