Volunteer members of the department elected Dan Bird as fire chief earlier this month. He replaces Jim Stolpe, who had the role for six years.
Bird sat down with KFSK’s Hannah Flor to talk about his plans for the department. Bird has been a firefighter for almost two decades, but he actually started out as an EMT. He says he’d see the firefighters during emergency callouts and think to himself, “That kinda looks fun too.” He says the adrenaline rush was the first thing that appealed to him.

Bird says the department is looking for all kinds of volunteers, no experience or special skills necessary. For more information, contact the department at www.JoinPVFD.org or call 907-772-3355.
