The Petersburg Indian Association announced this week that seven people are running for three two-year seats on the council. They include Cina Martinez, Marc Martinsen, Adam Ware, William “Billy“ Ware, and Veronica “Ronnie” Ware Maldonado. Incumbents Brandon Ware and Jacyln Eide are running for reelection. Councilmember Christine Yatchmenoff is not running to retain her seat.

Carol Martinez is running for tribal president against incumbent Debra Dzijúksuk O’Gara. O’Gara was elected last year for the one-year term.

On the council, there’s an open seat for a SEARHC Representative, as well as an alternate position, both three year terms. Everett Bennett is running to retain their seat as the SEARHC representative. Councilmember Jeanette Ness is also running for the position, as well as Will Ware and Tracy Welch.
The election is scheduled to take place January 6th in the Elizabeth Peratrovich building on 12th street. The deadline to file paperwork for write-in candidacy is Friday, December 6, at 4 p.m.
