A 27-year-old man was arrested in Petersburg on Feb. 18 after a string of break-ins occurred at three properties overnight, according to local police.
Authorities asked the community that morning for help identifying a subject shown in security footage breaking through a window by the front door of a home on Sing Lee Alley, near Petersburg’s downtown. Two shops on the same small street —Sew What and Kinder Komfort Toy Store— were also damaged by break-in attempts during that night.
The 20-second video shared on the Petersburg Police Department’s Facebook page showed the subject partially entering the residence through the broken window before running away. The person appeared to be wearing a Norwegian sweater, a popular clothing item in the town nicknamed “Alaska’s Little Norway.”
Several hours after posting the footage, Petersburg’s police department shared that they arrested Adrian Haro — posting a photo of a man in handcuffs, wearing a Norwegian sweater resembling the one in the break-in footage.
Haro was arraigned at the Petersburg Courthouse on Feb. 19. He faces four felony charges, including two counts of first-degree burglary, one count of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree criminal mischief. An additional misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree assault was dropped after no probable cause was found. Police shared these charges in their post immediately following the arrest, but as of Feb. 26, had not updated it to reflect the dropped charge.
Haro is in custody at Lemon Creek Correctional Facility in Juneau under a bail amount of $5,000.
