The Petersburg School Board will meet this evening at 6pm at the high school library to announce a few administrative resignations at the end of the school year. Middle-and-High-School Principal Ambler Moss will end his term in June.

Petersburg’s school district is asking the Borough to contribute additional funding to this year’s budget. The schools have been scraping by with state funding that has remained essentially flat for six years. The Borough’s contribution to the school district has also remained flat for two decades aside from a small increase last year.

Petersburg’s Early Childhood Education Task Force met Wednesday evening to discuss a collaboration with the Boys and Girls Clubs- Alaska. The organization is interested in restarting programming in Southeast Alaska, including Petersburg.

Long-time Sitka teacher Rebecca Himschoot recently became a freshman in the Alaska Legislature as the District 2 House representative. District Two includes Petersburg, Sitka, Yakutat, Craig, Hoonah, Kake, and much of Southeast Alaska. Himschoot is an independent and replaced Representative Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, who held the position for ten years as a Democrat.
