Petersburg’s School Board meets tonight to set 2023-24 calendar

Petersburg’s School Board will meet this evening to set the upcoming school year’s calendar. Superintendent Erica Kludt-Painter is proposing a calendar similar to this year’s. Kludt-Painter will also talk about recent attendance issues. Kids have been missing many school days this year partly for long family vacations.

KFSK seeks summer intern for 2023!

KFSK in Petersburg, Alaska is looking for a summer intern! This is a fantastic opportunity to get experience with all aspects of reporting for a small radio newsroom and helping run a small rural radio station. The intern will get on-air live hosting experience. They will emerge with a portfolio of stories as well as samples of their on-air work. This is our 20th year running the internship.

Reporter Shelby Herbert joins KFSK news team

Shelby Herbert recently joined the KFSK news team in Petersburg as a reporter. She moved around as a kid as part of a military family and went to high school in Whispering Pines, North Carolina. 
In January, she moved up to Alaska after earning her Master’s degree in Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno. 
Herbert spoke with Rachel Cassandra and they talked about her journey to KFSK and what it’s like reporting in Petersburg.
